    Blackjack Basics

Few games can match blackjack in popularity or value. And at an online casino blackjack takes on a whole new meaning as far as being one of the best and most opportune games around.

Blackjack, also known and referred to as twenty-one, is a card game based on a standard fifty-two card deck. Most blackjack tables, however, use multiple fifty-two card decks due to “card counting,” which while considered illegal is quite common, especially with the lower deck games.

In blackjack each suit has thirteen cards ranging from two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, jack, queen, king and ace. The ten, jack, queen, and king are each worth ten points. The other numbered cards are worth their face value, meaning that five would equal five points, for example. The ace is the most valuable and powerful card in blackjack as it can be worth either eleven points or one, depending on the player’s discretion.

The reason that blackjack is also referred to as twenty-one is because twenty-one points is the maximum amount allowed. Any player that exceeds twenty-one points goes “bust” and is an automatic loser. The ultimate hand is a ten and an ace which scores an automatic twenty-one. It must be noted that many novice players get trapped and confused regarding the value of the ace, always thinking it is worth eleven points.

The object of the game is to beat the dealer. The dealer goes right up against the player. Online casino blackjack offers many more hands per hour than at a brick and mortar casino and with that come more opportunity!
